Description
You'll fall in love with this beautiful, restored historic home in Penn Yan, NY. The Wagener Estate sits on a hill on the outskirts of the village and has some great history tied to it. Built in 1794 by one of the towns founders, Abraham Wagener, it has been lovingly restored by some of his great great grand family. There are even some of the old 'Wagener Apple' trees still growing on the property. Having been operated as the Wagener Estate Bed and Breakfast for many years, we are excited to offer this home for rent as a whole house rental.
This home is large and spacious with 6 bedrooms and 7 full baths. Driving up the driveway to the front of the house, you can imagine the carriages that pulled up to the front door in those old days. The driveway is circular with a parking area. There is even an old buggy out front planted full of beautiful flowers.
Walking up the flower lined steps to the front porch, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time when folks used their front porch as much as their parlor. The front porch has plenty of seating space and tables for dining. There are lights strung across the porch for dusky summer nights when the fireflies are out and you want to enjoy the slow evening breezes and the sound of the birds. Or it is a fantastic spot to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee while the world wakes up around you.
Walking in the front door, you'll enter the front entry room/hallway. The house is furnished with many antiques and period pieces and we ask that you respect this old farm house. Many of the windows are original and may not open well or may have small cracks in the glass. The doors and floors squeak a little as well as other aspects to staying in an old house. But you will love the comfortable renovations the present owners have done to allow guests to continue to enjoy this historic home. The front entry is spacious with a large mirror facing toward the front door and sideboards.
To the left of the front entry is the Living Room with it's gas burning fireplace, leather wingchairs, cozy couch, and the bar. This room has the feel of a 'gentlemens library' from days past but with new furniture. The walls are lined with bookshelves and you are welcome to enjoy the fireplace for heat or ambience.
Back out to the front entry and make a right into the formal Dining Room. This room has a large farmhouse table with plenty of seating for 12 along with a coffee corner and antique side board tables.
Behind the front entry is the farmhouse kitchen. The kitchen is fully furnished with range/stove/oven, stainless steel refrigerator and a dishwasher. The side door to the house enters the kitchen area and there is a gas grill for guests to use, just outside the kitchen door. The kitchen also has a farmhouse table for more casual dining or for playing games.
Off of the back of the kitchen, you will find an additional family room area with patio doors that walk out onto the back porch and back yard.
From this family room, you can access the Main floor Bedroom(Bedroom 1). This bedroom has a Queen size bed and an attached full bath and is a great spot if you have someone in your group who is not able to do stairs well (the other bedrooms are all located on the second floor)
The front entry also has a doorway to the first floor Full Bath. This bathroom is tucked in behind the stairway and the kitchen and has a shower.
Going up the stairs, you'll enter the hallway. Bedroom 2 will be on your left. This is a large bedroom, is a step down from the hallway and is a Bedroom suite with Queen size bed, sitting area, and an attached Full bath with shower.
Bedroom 3 is on the right at the top of the stairs. Bedroom 2 has a Queen bed and has an additional sitting room attached (pocket doors betweeen these rooms) along with an attached full bath
Bedroom 4 is down the hall and is a suite as well with a Queen bed and attached full bath with shower.
Bedroom 5 is next door and is a step down from the hallway. Bedroom 4 is a suite with a Queen bed and large attached bathroom. The bathroom has both a tub/shower and a stand up shower.
Bedroom 6 is an upstairs suite on the back end of the house with an attached full bath with shower. Bedroom 5 also has it's own balcony, along with an outside entry, and can be accessed as well from inside the house by going through the back family room area.
The grounds around the house are large and spacious...several acres of yard to explore. There is a fire pit out back for guests to use in the cooler evenings. A short walk across the yard and there is a trail leading over to the nearby graveyard where the founder/builder of the house is buried. The graveyard and the house grounds were originially one large farmstead. There are paved paths through the graveyard and you can find the gravestone for Abraham Wagener there. This is also a great place to walk and stroll.
We would love to host you at The Wagener House and have you experience the magic of this old farmhouse and the grounds as well as taste the history of the Village of Penn Yan. The village sidewalk comes to the house/yard, and it's just a short stroll and you are downtown where you can find Dining, Sweets shoppes, coffee shops and other store fronts to be explored. The Keuka Outlet trail is just across the street from the house, so bring your bikes and go for a ride on the trail! Or rent kayaks downtown and kayak the outlet and on down into the lake. You can almost see the lake from the house...it is only a block away. We are excited for you to explore the Finger Lakes from the comfort of The Wagener House!

This was the first time I used Linger Hospitality and I was very impressed. If I had a question, I would e-mail one of the hosts and get answers right away.

This 1794 home/former B&B was just beautiful. We were all impressed with the bedrooms, kitchen, and that front porch! Wow. Loved being here. We walked from the house into downtown Penn Yan on two nights to have dinner. There is a walking path/park right across the street. The location was perfect.

This charming home was reminiscent of something from a Hallmark Christmas Channel movie. It is listed on the National Registry of Historical Homes. Penn Yan is a charming NY. Finger Lakes Region alternate to typical hotel accommodations. It had character and history. Oh, if the walls could talk! My son and his fiance loved that they had their own suite separate from the rest of the home to prepare for their wedding. They stayed in another location for their Honeymoon night, but this home was more charming. We appreciate that the landlord provided a booklet detailing expectations and requests to keep quiet after 10 p.m. to respect neighbors. Jolene was quick to respond to any questions we may have had.

Our family enjoys utilizing vacation homes for holiday family events, but were concerned about getting just the right place for our son's wedding Destination Wedding. We were very pleased with this Penn Yan National Registry of Historic Homes. This charming home was reminiscent of something from a Hallmark Christmas Channel movie. The interior Design vintage rooms were very romantic. The lighting Tiffany lamps and Matellaise quilts with matching shams made for a cozy chic ambiance. Although the home had period appropriate narrow staircases, we could navigate the luggage. Panel door dividers could use a new track, but still provided privacy. The pantry was a nice addition. The Kitchen was larger than most we've seen in vacation cottages. I can picture our son and wife returning on their 5th, 10th, 25th etc., anniversaries.
